Installing Umajin

Welcome to Umajin. The video below demonstrates how to register, download and install Umajin. After completing the ‘Request Download’ form, the ‘Download’ link and your username and temporary password will be sent to you by email.

Register, Download and Install Umajin

To download Umajin Editor

You must create an account before you download the Umajin Editor. This account will be used to store all your projects on the cloud so you can access them from anywhere that you have internet access. To start the process;

  1. Go to https://umajin.com and click the ‘Sign In’ link at the top right of the Home page. You will be directed to a login page for Umajin Cloud Services. Here, you can click on the Sign Up link directly below the ‘Sign In’ button
  2. Enter your First Name, Last Name, Email address and Company details. If you are not part of a company then put Personal in the Company field. You must enter a valid email address as we will send a confirmation to this address to complete the sign up process.
  3. Click the ‘Register’ button. This should give you a message above the Registration box to say that you have been registered and to check your email address.
  4. Check the email account that you signed up with. There should be an email from support@umajin.com – if you don’t see it, you might want to check your SPAM folder.
  5. In the email, you should see a temporary password. This will be used to log in to the cloud services portal. Click the Login button
  6. After logging in, you will be directed to the download page for Umajin Editor. Select the version for your device (Windows or MacOS) and click the download button. If you are not directed to the Download page for some reason then click the Download page link in the Left-Hand sidebar. It should be the bottom link in the main section.
  7. Once downloaded, you may install it as you would any other app on your system.

Note: We now default to using the Vulkan display engine in Windows when running Umajin Editor version 4.6 or above. This is a powerful multi-platform rendering engine and has been used in other platforms for some time. In the unlikely event that your Windows version of Umajin Editor freezes on start-up, try the following;

First, it is good to see if you can find updated drivers for your system from the manufacturer as there is a high likelihood that any Vulkan issues are being fixed in drivers.  Vulkan is used in many modern games and applications so manufacturers are motivated to fix issues in their drivers.

If that doesn’t work then try the following to set your Umajin Editor to use DirectX as its display system:

  1. Find the “Umajin Editor” shortcut on your desktop.
    1. If you don’t have one then you will need to make one by going to the Umajin Editor install directory (usually “C:\Program Files\Umajin\Umajin Editor”)
    2. Right-click on the umajin.exe and choose “Show more options”
    3. Choose “Send to…”
    4. Click on “Desktop (create Shortcut)”
  2. Right-click on it and choose ‘Properties’
  3. In the ‘Target’ text box paste the following (including the speech marks)
    “C:\Program Files\Umajin\Umajin Editor\umajin.exe” –renderer directx11
  4. Click ‘Ok’ at the bottom of that window
Now when you double-click the shortcut to run Umajin Editor, it will run using the DirectX11 rendering system which is the same as in older versions of Umajin Editor.

Note: On Windows N and KN versions, you will need to install the Windows Media Feature Pack for the version of Windows that you have.  The following links may be helpful:

Umajin Editor Lite

Umajin Editor Lite is a free Umajin branded app, available from Google Play and iTunes, that allows you to login to test and view your projects using your Umajin account. Use the same email address and password when logging into both the Umajin Cloud Services/Dashboard and Umajin Editor. You can also share your project with 5 other users for testing and preview purposes. Great way to share progress as you build your project.

Umajin Editor Lite is used to test and socialize your projects with key stakeholders before you publish your project to the App Stores.

To download the Umajin Editor Lite, visit: iTunes for the Apple iOS Umajin Editor Lite GooglePlay for the Android Umajin Editor Lite The Umajin Download page for a Windows or OSX Umajin Editor Lite.

The Umajin Editor Lite has undergone some User Interface redesign. The old iconic state information has been replaced with more readable ‘plain English’ descriptions of the project’s state on the device. It includes information about whether the project is loaded, needs to be downloaded, is up-to-date, etc.  Other features include a new commenting system (which synchronizes with Umajin Editor), console window and pages list screen.  The threaded commenting system allows users of the Umajin Editor Lite to give feedback to the author on specific pages of the project.  These comments can be accessed by the Umajin Editor on the desktop for discussion.  The console window shows information (from the Umajin JavaScript engine) to help the author view state and error information from their scripts and custom components, directly on the mobile device.  The pages list shows all pages of the project so the user can find and comment on them, even when the page is not navigable.

Accessing Cloud Services via the Umajin Dashboard

The Dashboard accesses the Umajin Cloud Services. This is where your account, data, forms, loyalty, product lists, commerce data, analytics etc is set-up. If you have already installed Umajin Editor, go to http://cloud.umajin.com and login with the same username and password as you have for Umajin Editor.
