Overview of Umajin Cloud Services
What is the Umajin Cloud for?
To login to the Umajin Cloud Services, you can use the same username and password you use to login to the Umajin Editor. When you create a new Project in the Umajin Editor it creates a matching Project in the Umajin Cloud.
First Time Users
If you are a first time user there will be no projects in the Project List of the Umajin Cloud. When you Login to Umajin Editor use ‘File/New’ to create a new project.

- Select the new project
- If you have already created a project in the Umajin Editor you can access Cloud Services from the File menu under ‘Open Cloud Services’ or use the right facing diagonal arrow in the Properties Inspector of any component that needs to link to the Umajin Cloud, eg. Data Driven Components, Form Components.
After logging into Umajin Cloud Services you will see the project list page. This is where you can choose which project in your login you’d like to work on.
If you haven’t made a project no projects will yet be displayed.
This is the dashboard for your project. Basic information will be displayed such as the Project name, Project icon, Project ID, Project status. Project token and Devices.
To the far right is a NOTES section you can choose to display or hide. The first part is a preview photo QR code to enable you to use Umajin Editor Lite on a device. This allows you to preview your project while it’s still in development. For more information click this link and scroll down to the paragraph headed Umajin Editor Lite here
Underneath the QR code is a space for Project notes. Press the cogwheel icon on the top right of the notes and select Edit to edit the notes. You may use this feature how ever you like. We recommend using it for reminders or instructions for other people who may be editing the Project or as a to-do list for that particular Project.
Now that you’ve selected a Project you will notice the left menu has more items such Dynamic and Communication. Let’s explore what these menus can do.
- Go to Dynamic>Feeds
This section stores the Cloud Services data for Dynamic Components you have added to your Project. This allows you to change text, links and ordering at any time without needing to push updates to the app store. The Dynamic Components could be:
- Feeds/Animated Feeds: These feeds are data/images either manually entered into the Umajin Cloud or 3rd party feeds like Facebook or Twitter. The feeds can be animated using a range of transition effects.
- Dynamic Articles: Changeable articles that can be added to the Umajin Cloud.
- Simple Forms: A simple contact form that can be submitted back to the Umajin Cloud.
- In every case these components can have information and fields added and edited. Hovering over the question mark displays an explanation of what each heading or entry is for.
The header names for fields can be mapped inside Umajin Editor so we suggest a logical naming system that matches the Master’s scene tree naming in Umajin Editor. If you haven’t began building your Project you don’t need to stress about this as you can always change it later.
Right clicking on the spanner icon allows you to set the column type
- Date: Allows dates only in the cells of this column
- HTML: This will allow you to open an HTML editor and format text when clicking on a cell in this column
- Image (cloud): The Media Uploader will open when clicking on a cell in this column and you will be able to either choose an existing image or upload a new one. The column will also display an image thumbnail.
- Number: Allows numbers only in the cells of this column
- Text (default): This is the default type for the column and allows text.
idx column: This column is automatically added to the feed and provides a row number starting at 0. This makes it easier to understand to Feed Item View component indexing.
To add another column right click on a cell and insert a new column. Right click to choose to remove a column also.
- Source URL: URL address which is used to import feed data from a third party server. Example : http://example.com/mydata.csv
- Source Type: Used to define the type of data to be imported from the third party server to be read into this feed.
- Source Auto Refresh Interval: Data will be imported from the third party server at time intervals specified by this field.
- Transform Rules: For complex XML or JSON data you need JSON formatted jsont transform rules to flatten or map the data from your Source URL. Unlike CSV content XML can be multidimensional (a row field may contain a further array of data). See https://developer.umajin.com/api/ for more information.
- Refresh URL: Save and refresh JSON from URL.
- Project Refresh Interval: The time in seconds that must pass before the Project will re-request the Feed data. Warning : Using Every View may cause excessive data usage for customers.
- RSS Top Items: The amount of items to collect when importing from a Source URL
- RSS include matching: If this contains text then it will limit the RSS items or tweets to only those that contain this text. Useful for matching a #hashtag.
Send Push Notification if Data Changes
- Send Push on change: If yes a push notification using the specified Push Template will be sent when the data changes from a Source URL (android only)
- Push template: The Push notification template to use if Send Push on Change = yes
The Versions tab shows the previous versions of your feed. These versions are automatically generated when you edit the feed, but not during automated periodic importing from a Source URL .
Clicking on an older version will allow you to view its contents or rollback to it. Rollback: when viewing an older version change the Active setting from No to Yes then Save.
These are used in Dynamic Feeds that import data from a third party, Source URL, when you have selected Send Push on Change. A selected Push Template contains the message to be sent to android devices running your app when the feed is periodically automatically updated.
- Template Name: the label you give your template
- Title: Title of the notification, this appears on device
- Android Text: Notification text that appears in the Android OS
- Application Text: Notification text that appears inside the Application
- Active: Currently active or not
Publishing must be initiated using the Umajin Editor (File -> Publish). When that process is complete you will be directed to the Cloud Publishing to complete the publishing requirements. [The present help information is still current with a few term changes https://help.umajin.com/publish/]
Umajin Analytics uses Piwik as a system of analysing what people are doing with your app. As a designer you can get Umajin Analytics to measure which pages are viewed, which links are clicked, information about the devices on which your app is loaded and more. This is useful for establishing app design effectiveness or identifying areas to improve.
You can upload media in Umajin Editor but also on Umajin Cloud Services using the Media Uploader. Simply drag and drop your images and arrange them into folders.
Takes you to a webpage to download the latest version of Umajin Editor.
Profile – accessed top right of Umajin Cloud Services title panel
- Upload a profile picture which can be seen using multi user features in Umajin Editor and Umajin Editor Lite.
- Pick your color: This color is used in the Umajin Editor for multi user. A color will be chosen for you by default.
